This Unit provides the full range of legal services to assist homeowners at risk of mortgage foreclosure, an... d to defend mortgage foreclosure actions, including initiation of Chapter 13 bankruptcy cases, loan modifications and rescission actions. The Unit also protects people from unfair financial practices by representing consumers in debt collection defense cases, defending against improper garnishment of wages or bank accounts and representing in cases involving used automobiles with a focus on financing, unfair and deceptive sales practices, warranty and odometer law violations. The attorney will be responsible for a caseload. The attorney's duties include drafting pleadings, conducting depositions, and representing clients in court. This Unit involves significant litigation. However, the attorney will also be required to conduct client intake, conduct home visits, attend community education events, and participate in client outreach. We are seeking an attorney with a commitment to and passion for the rights of low-income clients.
State and Federal litigation experience is required.
