DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THIS LEVEL
As at the journey-level, the senior-level Registered Nurse 3 provides comprehensive nursing services to individuals, families, and communities in the area of health promotion and illness treatment and prevention. RN 3 work is distinguished from work at the journey level by the expectation that the senior regularly performs work with no supervisory nurse, nurse practitioner, or medical doctor on the premises.
EXAMPLES OF PRINCIPAL DUTIES
(Duties may include but are not limited to the following examples. Any one position may not perform all of the tasks listed.)
During family home visits: Educate on parenting issues and child development, growth, and health. Provide prenatal outreach, care, and education. Provide post-partum care. Advise about and administer contraception. Provide lactation consultations. Identify and take steps to involve SCF to protect at-risk children. Screen and evaluate infants and toddlers for special health, feeding, neurological, or developmental problems. Provide education on prevention and management of diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.
In the school setting: Teach protocols to school staff for special needs children. Develop care plans per IEPs. Assess student health problems, provide counseling, speak with parents, provide treatment referrals, and conduct follow-ups. Through screening programs, identify vision
