The Pennsylvania State University Penn State Altoona, Division of Education, Human Development, and Social Sciences, invites applications for the tenure-line faculty position of Assistant Professor of Elementary a... nd Early Childhood Education program, specializing in Social Studies Education, beginning August 2022. The successful candidate must have an earned Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field, at the time of appointment start date; be able to teach Social Studies Education and other related undergraduate courses in the Elementary and Early Childhood Education program (PreK-4 certification); and have a minimum of 3-years of experience teaching elementary or middle school. We encourage applicants with specialization in multiple disciplines and/or subject areas within the field of education.
The position requires the teaching of nine credit hours per semester, conducting original research published in peer-reviewed journals, advising and mentoring undergraduate students, as well as providing service to the College, community, and the profession. Each candidate should demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate teaching and working collaboratively with faculty and local school district partners. Successful candidates will be dedicated to ensuring the highest quality pre-service teacher education while also encouraging individual growth, cultural awareness, ethical decision-making, and civic responsibility. Candidates will also be expected to assist in the ongoing growth and development of the program and participate in student recruitment and retention activities, as well as program assessment. Grove City College Grove City College’s Department of Education invites applications for a full-time assistant/associate professor of Education beginning in July 2022, pending final budget app... roval. A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education is required with an emphasis on secondary education. Successful candidates will show past experience in PreK-12 settings, and successful teaching at the undergraduate level is preferred. Grove City College’s Education program houses seventeen distinct PDE approved teacher preparation programs spanning PreK-12 areas, enrolling over 265 students. The Education Department utilizes a professional development school model of teacher preparation with heavy emphasis on ongoing field work throughout the freshmen-senior experience. The Department also houses a variety of campus resources including a preschool, curriculum library, and specialized services for career development for education majors.
Responsibilities include teaching a variety of undergraduate education courses, working with professional partners, engaging with student professional development opportunities, and supervising clinical experiences included embedded field experiences and student teaching. A strong preference will be given for applicants with experience teaching in high school settings. Faculty members are expected to have a classroom load of 23 to 25 contact hours per academic year.

Students in this program explore theories of teaching and learning; how to be professional educators in diverse school settings; and develop skills in educational leadership, inclusive education, and professional inquiry. The candidate will need to be versed in early childhood education as well as literacy education.
Candidates must have an earned doctorate (or an earned doctorate by the date of appointment) in Early Childhood Education, Literacy Education, or a related field and evidence of an active and focused research program. In addition, candidates must have PreK-12 teaching experience, with preference for those with experience at the PreK-4 levels. Aligned with the University’s mission and goals, we are especially interested in those whose scholarship addresses anti-bias, anti-racist, anti-oppressive theories and practices.
A commitment to excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching and mentoring, both inside and outside the classroom, is also essential. Candidates who have experience teaching both lower level and upper division courses in their area of expertise are preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience working with diverse student populations and demonstrate interest in facilitating student/faculty research and mentoring. The teaching load is 3-3.
