Permanency Specialist – Family and Relative/Kin Focused
Ampersand Families
See link for full job and agency details, benefits, salary, & how to apply.

The position has a mixed caseload that includes both relative/kin families and non-relative prospective adoptive parents. The relatives/kin that Ampersand Families serves are hoping to be a placement or permanency resource to a youth or sibling group they already know who have been removed from their parent/s by child protective services. Non-relative prospective adoptive parents enter the process to explore whether they might be a good fit to adopt an older youth from the foster care system.

In work with relatives/kin, the Permanency Specialist’s role involves engaging, assessing, licensing for foster care, and supporting these families until the youth return home to their parents, or through the adoption/transfer of legal guardianship process if reunification is not possible. The right person for this position has a deep commitment to helping relative/kin families successfully parent children and teens who have experienced trauma. There is potential for the person in this position to have impact on our agency’s continuing advocacy to improve the experience of relatives and kin in the child welfare system, as well our agency’s ongoing program development.

In work with non-relative families, the Permanency Specialist’s role involves supporting the prospective parent/s through the home study assessment, foster care licensing, preparation, matching, transition, placement and on-going placement support components of the adoption process.

This is a professional position requiring significant amount of self-direction, some irregular hours and occasional travel throughout the state of Minnesota.

Part Time Relative Search and Engagement Specialist
Ampersand Families
See link for full job and agency details, benefits, salary, & how to apply.

The Relative Search and Engagement Specialist will play a key role in locating and contacting relatives and kin for new youth services referrals. This unique position within the agency will give focus to digging deeper into identifying relative/kin that may have been more challenging for counties to identify/contact during the youth’s initial entry into foster care due to child protection concerns. The concentrated efforts and low caseload of the Relative Search and Engagement Specialist is created to identify positive connections/permanency for youth who have already had a termination of parental rights by way of relative/kin engagement. The Relative Search and Engagement Specialist will work alongside the child specific recruiter during the first 45 days of referral, or partner with external county teams, to ensure that efforts to locate relative/kin is concentrated and effective. This is a part-time, 24 hours per week position.

Permanency Specialist – Youth-Focused
Ampersand Families
See link for full job and agency details, benefits, salary, & how to apply.

The Youth-Focused Permanency Specialist provides a broad array of child-specific recruitment, preparation and support services for Minnesota foster care youth, primarily ages 10-18. This is a professional position requiring a significant amount of self-direction, irregular hours and travel throughout the state of Minnesota.

Ampersand Families’ programs and services focus almost exclusively on achieving permanency for older youth (10 years and older) in Minnesota’s child welfare system. Our approach to permanency work invites both prospective adoptive families and waiting youth to be deeply engaged in their own process. For youth in particular, being part of decisions made on their behalf is a key component to meaningful permanency work. Permanency Specialists are the frontline to achieving permanency for youth and families. The rest of the agency supports the work of Permanency Specialists by strategically addressing systemic barriers to permanency for older youth, youth of color and sibling groups. An orientation of professionalism and humility that values continuous learning and commitment to give and receive consultation are requirements for successful employment at Ampersand Families.
