ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Prepare all diets precisely following written diet protocols

Maintain organized diet sheets for every exhibit, and maintain records of diet changes

Review and revise diets under supervision of the veterinarian/general curator

Monitor inventory and usage rates

Place regular orders for food items, including weekly produce and live prey deliveries, monthly dry goods, and periodic orders of frozen meat, rodents, and fish

Delivery receiving and commissary stocking

Communicate with food vendors as needed, to ensure value and quality

Maintain price list and track commissary budget

Be familiar with USDA and AZA standards of food safety and quality

Inspect food products for quality and oversee appropriate food storage, including appropriate containers, labelling, and temperatures

Familiar with appropriate food storage parameters and appropriate freeze-thaw practices

Training of commissary interns and volunteers

Standard recordkeeping including daily keeper report, inventory/usage logs, and diet change logs

May occasionally need to perform demonstrations for student groups, tours, or VIPs

Ability to interpret and perform a nutrient analysis is preferred; will train

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

A Bachelor’s degree in zoology with emphasis on animal nutrition or a related field is highly preferred.

Minimum two-year experience in a professional animal facility working as commissary keeper for captive mammal, birds, fresh/salt water fish, amphibians, reptiles, and invertebrates.

SUMMARY: 
It is the responsibility of the Biologist to be aware of all aspects of the Life Sciences Department. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum is seeking applicants for the newly created Senior Aquarist position. The BMNSM is a nationally accredited private non-profit natural history museum dedicated to malacology. The Museum has grown significantly in the past five years and we are looking for a Senior Aquarist to grow along with us. We are currently undergoing a complete renovation of our ground floor, which includes the installation of ~10,000 gallons of temperate and tropical living marine exhibits designed and installed by Tenji. The live exhibits will display primarily mollusks, with a few corals and bony fish as well and are scheduled to open to the public in January of 2020. Start date is flexible for the right candidate between June-August 2019.

Requirements
· Bachelor Degree in Marine Biology, Aquaculture, or similar field
· Minimum 2 years paid experience in a public aquarium or similar facility
· Minimum 1 year paid experience caring for cephalopods in a public aquarium or similar facility
· Able to perform all of the position responsibilities

Full time non-exempt starting salary $35,000-$45,000 depending on experience.
