Our division provides anesthesia for approximately 1,600 cardiac and 400 thoracic surgical cases annually and we are one of the busiest mitral valve repair centers in the nation, performing over 400 mitral repairs per year. Our complex aortic surgical center is rapidly evolving with over 100 Ross procedures done annually making Mount Sinai the busiest Ross program in the world. U.S. News & World Report consistently names Mount Sinai Hospital as one of the nation’s top hospitals and currently rank #4 in Best Hospitals for Cardiology & Heart Surgery by U.S. News & World Report. With the opening of a new state-of-the-art cardiovascular medical tower in 2024, the MMC cardiac service line will expand to better meet the needs of both our community and northern New England. We anticipate increasing our cardiac surgery (currently 1000 cases), structural heart, and EP volume by 80% over the next three years.

Our cardiac anesthesia group provides expert anesthesiology care for patients undergoing coronary revascularization, complex valve replacements, structural heart procedures (TAVR, MitraClip, Watchman), high-risk PCI, and heart failure surgery (ECMO, LVAD, Impella).
