Infinera is seeking an intern to join our Optical Systems Group (OSG). The intern will work in a cross-functional team focused on digital-optical integration of our 400G-XR coherent pluggables based on Infinera's next-generation coherent photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and FlexCoherent DSP ASICs. Specifically, they will work with their fellow OSG members on the design, implementation, & maintenance of various calibration algorithms to optimize system level performance. Principal Optical Integration Engineer

Job Summary
The job responsibilities include generating experimental results that inform the design and development of PIC-based modules and digital coherent optics (DCO) subsystems from early-stage prototypes and evolving to product compliant hardware.
Frequently used diagnosis capturing coherent waveforms on a high-speed oscilloscope and performing coherent signal processing on waveforms and measuring bit-error rate performance in the presence of optical noise and transmission impairments.
Through frequent interaction with the firmware and controls teams, you will assist in optimizing performance-critical aspects such as powerup self-calibration, receive acquisition, acquisition robustness, performance tuning and tradeoffs between the coherent DSP engine and the PIC-module, real-time performance monitoring, and in-service performance optimization. These algorithms will be tested during the implementation stage to ensure they are robust and operate reliably.
Results will be presented internally and documented as electrical and optical performance specifications for next-generation platforms.
The successful candidate will work closely with coherent DSP, Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC), high speed analog ASIC, module design, and product engineering teams to ensure quality release of new products starting from architecture and design phase all the way through manufacturing release.
