This position is responsible for providing leadership, direction, coordination, management, and supervision to IMSA’s experiential learning programs including, but not limited to, Student Inquiry & Research (SIR), Internships/Entrepreneurships, Independent Studies, and Intersession.
The internationally recognized Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® (IMSA) develops creative, ethical leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. As a teaching and learning laboratory created by the State of Illinois and governed by the Illinois Board of Higher Education, IMSA enrolls academically talented Illinois students (grades 10–12) in its advanced, residential college preparatory program. It also serves thousands of educators and students in Illinois and beyond through innovative instructional programs that foster imagination and inquiry.
Starting salary no less than $79,144.

Career Development Specialist (STEM & Health Sciences) (Pre-Health)

Develops and implements programming to educate students about career development clusters, preparation for experiential learning, internship and job search opportunities, and graduate and professional school pathways.
• Conducts career development training programs for small and large groups of students and alumni.
• Collaborates with employer development and relations team to identify potential employers to network with students and alumni in preparation for career events and engagement opportunities.
• Serves as liaison between employers, faculty, academic advisors, and alumni to advance career opportunities.
• Advises and coaches students regarding career clusters and pathways, internship and job opportunities, and graduate and professional school pathways.
• Continuously develops and updates resources focused on Career Clusters: STEM, and Health Science (Pre-Health).
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements: Master’s degree and 1 year experience.
Requires a thorough understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of student development; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of related disciplines may be obtained through a formal, directly job-related master’s degree from a college or university with in-depth specialized training directly related to the type of work that is being performed. Experience with career coaching, advising, human services, training and development, and project management.

This includes researching career development needs for the students in that academic unit; planning, implementing, and conducting outreach workshops, presentations & programs to educate and inform students, faculty/staff, and administrators about internship programs & services and employability skills; advising students individually or in groups regarding various types of work experience opportunities, resources, registering for services, and job search strategies; and assisting in facilitating, promoting, and expanding interaction with business/industry, government, and nonprofit employers to create and increase career-related work experience opportunities, e.g. co-ops, internships, volunteer, and summer employment.
