The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University
The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University, a national leader in digital media education, seeks to hire a Director and Professor of Practice to lead the Sustainability Desk at Cronkite News, the student-staffed, faculty-led news division of Arizona PBS that serves as a test bed for innovation across the news industry.

The Professor of Practice will be part of a new regional journalism collaboration to enhance and expand coverage of sustainability issues in the Southwest. Elemental: Covering Sustainability, is comprised of public television and radio stations in key western cities and includes Cronkite News, Arizona PBS, KJZZ, KPCC, Rocky Mountain PBS and PBS SoCal. The director will work with a team of student reporters who produce content for digital and broadcast platforms (both television and radio). The stories will run on the Elemental partners’ platforms as well as in professional media outlets that routinely pick up Cronkite News content.

The bureau director will join the award-winning faculty who direct Cronkite School professional programs, including former Washington Post Executive Editor Leonard Downie Jr., former BET Vice President Retha Hill, Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter and editor Jacquee Petchel, Pulitzer Prize-winning data editor Sarah Cohen, Peabody award winner and former executive producer of NPR’s Morning Edition Tracy Wahl, Emmy-award winning news anchor Vanessa Ruiz and former Knight Foundation journalism innovator Eric Newton.

Cronkite News is one of 13 immersive professional experiences at the Cronkite School that reflect the school’s “teaching hospital” approach to education. Students engage at least two full days a week in programs that include a nightly television newscast distributed on Arizona PBS, an innovation and entrepreneurship lab where students create new digital products and services, news reporting bureaus in Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles, and a Spanish-lan

OPB Emerging Journalist internship/ Paid
Oregon Public Broadcasting
Generally, this role serves as a Production Assistant in Think Out Loud. Think Out Loud is a daily radio show that covers politics and current events, arts and culture, the environment — anything and everything that affects people living in the Pacific Northwest.

The Production Assistant (PA) role is an integral member of the Think Out Loud show staff. PAs participate in all phases of the show production process from pitching ideas, planning social media, and booking the live show itself. The show’s producers and host are respected public media professionals who are excited to share their craft and experience with our interns. PAs receive a rich, comprehensive experience to help springboard their career in journalism.

Eligibility Requirements
This paid journalism internship is designed for individuals who either:

are currently enrolled in an undergraduate program
have graduated from an undergraduate degree program within 2 years of the beginning of the internship

Upon being selected for the Emerging Journalist Internship, the intern will secure a membership in a professional minority-journalism organization, such as:

National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ)
National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ)
Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA)
Native American Journalists Association (NAJA)
These organizations will provide mentorship and lifelong learning opportunities. OPB can reimburse membership fees for paid interns.

Applicants should have a strong interest in the future of public media, evolving forms of mass communication, engineering new forms of multimedia journalism as well as a commitment to news that serves the public interest.

This internship serves during Spring term. Each year, one intern will be selected. The internship involves:

3 month commitment, start between April and June, ending 10 weeks later (exact dates are flexible)
40 hour work week
$12.50 per hour
