Tree Care Positions Open - Crew is responsible for the safe and efficient pruning, trimming, and removal of trees. Duties include operating a variety of tree maintenance equipment, such as chainsaws, blowers, chippers, and aerial lifts. Tree Crew Member also performs physical labor, such as hauling brush, picking up sticks, and raking.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Prune and trim trees to maintain their health and appearance.
• Remove dead, diseased, or hazardous trees.
• Operate a variety of tree maintenance equipment, such as chainsaws, blowers, chippers, and aerial lifts.
• Perform physical labor, such as hauling brush, picking up sticks, and raking.
• Maintain tools and equipment in good working order.
• Follow all safety procedures.
Qualifications:
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Must be able to lift and move heavy objects.
• Must be able to work in heights.
• Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to follow safety procedures.
• Must be able to work as part of a team.

Pesticide Applicator

We are currently looking for a seasonal (with potential to go full-time year-round) Commercial Pesticide Applicator.
Duties include, but not limited to: applying granular turf fertilizers, liquid weed control, fungicides, and other control products.
Preferably someone who currently holds a Commercial Pesticide Applicator License with 2+ years experience, but will train and educate, if necessary.

Inflation Reduction Act Grant Coordinator
Hennepin County
Hennepin County’s Environment and Energy department is seeking an individual to join the county’s forestry team to coordinate the activities funded by the United States Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) grant received by Hennepin County. This is a temporary position lasting five years that will expire upon grant funding completion. The position will perform the needed tasks associated with the administration and coordination of IRA forestry grant activities. The position will coordinate and oversee contracted activities, employment training programs, outreach activities, educational services, build out work plans for grant funded tree inspectors, tree removal and replanting scheduling as well as recording, reporting on and presenting important metrics. This position will also interface closely with the public, University of Minnesota staff, municipal staff, green jobs providers, contractors, Forestry Pathway Productive Day crew leaders and their staff.

As a member of the Horticulture and Collections Department, the Arboretum’s Arborist assists with development, oversight, and implementation of all aspects of the Arboretum’s arboriculture program. The Arborist works alongside fellow members of the horticulture department rotating through plant collections evaluating plant health and assessing and executing the required care measures including the unique pruning needs of each specimen. The Arborist position executes and oversees tree maintenance involving extensive climbing and aerial lift operation, tree removals, hazard tree assessments and implementation of corrective measures, IPM practices, and coordination and oversight of arboriculture contractors and other tasks as needed as part of the full horticultural operation. The Arborist position directs the work of others assisting with arboricultural tasks as assigned, ensuring proper personnel and work site training and safety. The successful candidate is expected to engage fully in the professional activities of the Arboretum and work collaboratively with colleagues on efforts across the institution. Required to work in all weather conditions in all seasons; may require evening and weekend work as needed.
