The Department consists of 30 tenured and tenure track faculty members, and offers programs leading to B.A., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. The Department has research strengths in data mining, databases, graphics, image and video computing, machine learning, natural language processing, networking, operating systems, software design and implementation, real-time systems, security and cryptography, and theory of computation and algorithms. In addition, members of the Department have close collaborative relationships with faculty in mathematics and statistics, computer engineering, and biology, among others.

Teaching-Oriented Faculty (Senior Community Service Fellow)

University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Department of Computer Science is seeking to fill a teaching-oriented faculty position (job title: Senior Community Service Fellow) to start in Fall 2019. With the increasing enrollment in the undergraduate computer science program, this position will primarily help in covering several mid- to upper-level undergraduate courses such as data structures, database, networks, architecture, operating systems, and other courses as identified by the Department of Computer Science. Applicants will have earned a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field, and must be able to teach all mid- to upper-level undergraduate CS courses. Teaching experience at the university level is a plus. Related industry experience is a plus. The position will involve 75% teaching (three sections each fall and spring semester, or annual equivalent) and 25% service/outreach activities such as coordination of multiple section courses, outreach to industry or education communities, accreditation support or other assignments. Constellations Fellow/Research Associate I
Constellations Center for Equity in Computing
Constellation Fellows will serve as an instructional innovator for the College of Computing’s Constellations Center for Equity in Computing. As such, this individual will work on a team with other such innovators to develop online courses and teacher support resources. They will assist with creating an implementation plan to increase teacher efficacy in facilitating the online courses with effective computer science instructional and engagement methods. During the school year, the Fellow will teach CS classes and coach teachers to build their teaching capacity in the online courses being implemented. When Fellows are not teaching in schools, they will be on the Georgia Tech campus conducting activities such as but not limited to continuing research, further develop curriculum, plan for professional development (PD) & collaborating with the team to further advance the Center’s mission to democratize computing. The Fellows will provide PD to Constellations’ growing community of computer science teachers, starting at the high school level.
Experience with teaching AP Computer Science Principles or AP Computer Science A or a comparable course to either of these is a plus. Candidates should have a general understanding of major challenges in computing education. They should be able to develop cutting edge online & unplugged CS curricula and be willing to work closely with high school teachers to build a CS program. It is preferred that candidates possess strong coaching and mentoring skills that will be utilized in building teaching capacity with teachers who are novices to computing. They should also have a level of enthusiasm for teaching and working with students who are underrepresented in computing fields, namely female students and students of color. At least 3-4 years of teaching experience is preferred in a CS, math or science related field. Candidates do not need to currently be teaching CS but should have been teaching within the last 3-5 years.
