The Simulation Operations Specialist’s primary responsibility is to collaborate with Healthcare Simulation Educators to provide technical and coordination support for the Simulation Program, simulation-based training initiatives, and professional development projects focused on patient safety, quality, and performance improvement. The Simulation Operations Specialist role in the delivery of healthcare simulation is to provide technical expertise for setup, maintenance, and operations of computer systems, simulators and clinical equipment/supplies, audio-visual systems, high-fidelity/low-fidelity manikins, procedural task trainers, and immersive learning modalities/environments.
This position will work from both the Dallas and Plano campuses and may occasionally work from other locations in the DFW area.
This is a full time, hourly position working Monday – Friday typically during standard business hours - however there may occasionally be coverage needs outside of those hours.

The Simulation Operation Specialist (SOS) plays an integral role in the nursing education team ensuring that all simulation equipment is maintained, set up, stored, and cleaned for each student simulation scenario. The SOS will also have responsibility over the student lab; maintaining all supplies, set up, tear down based on the curriculum. The SOS will have responsibility for the installation, maintenance, and general operation of sophisticated high, mid, and low fidelity simulation equipment, task trainers, audio-visual equipment, and computers used in the training of healthcare professionals. This is a very trainable role! Those with computer/tech skills have an understanding of human anatomy and like the behind-the-scenes aspect of the role will do well! This is a collaborative team where the nursing education team will work in tandem with the SOS on a daily basis.

The Manager of Nursing Simulation Laboratory is able to set up, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and in some cases repair simulation equipment, hospital-type equipment used in clinical activities, and troubleshoot basic computer software and hardware, in conjunction with the Office of Technology department, used in simulation activities. The Manager also instructs and assists faculty and students participating in simulation in the use of technical equipment used. Performs operational activities such as staff and maintenance scheduling, lab utilization scheduling, and inventory/purchasing functions. The Manager is familiar with the various modalities of simulation education and has a good grasp of simulation educational principles, and is therefore able to assist in the development, setup, delivery, and takedown of simulation education sessions. Work is performed under minimal supervision and performance evaluation is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.

Simulation Specialist
