Senior Research Scientist – Product Performance

As a Senior Research Scientist, you’ll be responsible for your own research area within Product Performance, focussed on the deep characterisation of pet food chemistry and the relationship of the chemistry of pet foods to the performance of pet foods, as part of our mission to make a better world for pets. You will ensure your research is aligned to the Product Performance research plan and delivers knowledge to key customers in the Pet Nutrition Global Innovation Centres (GICs) and to our veterinary pet food business Royal Canin. You will work with the Product Performance team and the wider WALTHAM® team, developing research ideas, gaining approval through the research governance process, negotiating resources, and managing projects to bring your ideas to life.

We are currently seeking to add an appropriately qualified Chemist / Separation Scientist to join our team at our Newtown, PA location.
Candidate profile:
• Ph.D. degree in Organic, Medicinal, or Analytical Chemistry with demonstrated expertise in separation science and the application of chromatographic methods for isolation of components from mixtures. Experience with Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Mass Spectrometry is also desirable, but not a requirement
• Good interpersonal skills / strong verbal and written communication proficiency
• Working knowledge of modern computer systems and applications

• Post-graduate experience in an industrial setting preferred, but not required.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Design and execute experimental work to determine the structure of API, drug product impurities and degradants
• Participate in management of projects interfacing with clients in setting deliverable objectives and updating progress
• Analyze data independently or as part of a multidisciplinary research team preparing and communicating results verbally and/or as written technical reports
• Take a leadership role in managing the separations laboratory and implementing new separations technology and workflows into our processes
• Help troubleshoot and maintain instrumentation
• Assist in marketing current and developing new service offerings

The successful candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of the application and operation of MS, NMR, and ESR instrumentation. Direct experience in the marketing and promotion to academia, government, and industry is desired. A PhD in Chemistry with background in sales and marketing is desirable. The position requires frequenttravel, a valid driver’s license, and passport.
