Prospecting for candidates for tenure track position in NMR to open early 2022
Ghent university The department of Organic and Macromolecular Chemistry of the Faculty of Sciences at UGent is currently considering possibilities to open a tenure-track staff position that aims a... t introducing a second research group active in NMR spectroscopy with a strong theoretical-methodological profile (development of theory and pulse sequences for (bio) chemical research of complex molecules and complex mixtures). This profile is complementary to those of the current research group and offers numerous additional and reinforcing collaborative opportunities with members of the department and beyond. The position will most likely start in early 2022, following the usual interviews in the fall of 2021. More information on the NMR facilities can be found on the website of the NMR expertise Centre of Ghent University (https://www.ugent.be/nmr/en). Postdocs considering to submit ERC starting grants, or participate in the University’s bi-annual central competition (6 positions every 2 years, competition to open in June 2020) are particularly encouraged to consider UGent, as this allows fast tracking directly to a tenured position (instead of a five year tenure-track before definitive evaluation and tenure appointment). The main goal of the Leads4Flu project is to discover lead compounds directed to a novel biological target in the Influenza virus - the non-structural protein 1 (NS1).
In this project we will follow a multidisciplinary approach combining structural biology (NMR), bioinformatics, chemoinformatics and computational drug discovery with chemical synthesis and experimental virology.
The PhD Researcher to be hired will be responsible for NMR and computational biology approaches, in particular, in the areas of fragment-based lead discovery, protein-ligand interactions and protein-protein interactions.
Contract: Three year renewable contract; gross monthly wage € 2128,34; preferential starting date in 2019 or early 2020.
