Assistant Professor of Psychology

West Texas A&M University, a member of the Texas A&M University System located in Canyon, TX, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology position. The successful applicant will have specialization in School Psychology, Developmental Psychology, and/or Educational Psychology. This appointment will begin August 2024.

This full-time, 9-month, tenure-track assistant professor position will include responsibilities in teaching, research, and service. Responsibilities will include teaching psychology-related courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels (a total of 3 courses/9 credit hours per semester), communicating with current and prospective students, mentoring graduate student thesis projects, developing and maintaining a productive research agenda, and participating in professional service. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to create and deliver quality curricula for students from a wide range of diverse backgrounds. Opportunities for mentorship, workshops in pedagogy, and instructional support are available through the Terry B. Rogers College of Education and Social Sciences, Teaching Excellence Center, and Instructional Technology Services. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Post-Doctoral Fellow

We (Drs. Aerielle Allen, Lisa Shin, and Sam Sommers) seek a post-doctoral fellow to join our team in its work on an NIH Transformative Award-funded project titled, Effects of Racism on Brain and Physiological Pathways to Health Disparities. In this research we aim to examine the brain, physiological, and psychological responses to the recollection of specific personal experiences with racism among participants who identify as Black or African American. The project will also use prospective smartphone-based ecological momentary assessment (EMA) methods to measure the frequency and severity of experiences with racism as they occur in daily life in real time, permitting the investigation of how these measures associate with brain, physiological, and health outcomes. The initial post-doctoral appointment will be for one year with a possibility for extension.

Research Associate - Computational Social Science and Intellectual Humility

The Research Associate will work under the supervision of Professors Grossmann (Waterloo) & Tetlock (Penn) and contribute to research in computational social science, with a focus on Natural Language Processing and advanced data analysis of intellectual humility and judgement and decision-making. Responsibilities include NLP analyses (classification) of unique unstructured texts from experts, superforecasters and the public in terms of uncertainty, open-mindedness and intellectual humility, conducting multi-group multilevel analyses, and psychometric modeling. The Social and Behavioral Sciences Branch (SBSB) within NICHD has openings for
postdoctoral fellows. Fellows will join collaborative multi-disciplinary teams to investigate social, behavioral, and environmental determinants of health and health disparities across the life course.
Postdoctoral fellowships are available within research groups led by Dr. Bobby Cheon, Dr. Stephen Gilman, and Dr. Tonja Nansel. Over the next year, SBSB anticipates expanding its research on the developmental origins of disparities in cardiovascular disease.

We’re seeking a motivated Research Assistant to join our team and drive innovation in the fields of psychology and organizational behavior. As a Research Assistant, you will be at the forefront of developing, conducting, and managing research projects as designated by the faculty supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

In this pivotal role, you’ll take the lead in executing major research projects and collaborating with faculty members to perform cutting-edge analyses. You’ll supervise volunteer research assistants and oversee various research studies, from design to data collection and analysis. Your role will involve managing research subject recruitment, preparing data for publication in top-tier academic journals, conducting literature reviews, drafting and revising papers, coordinating lab meetings, managing research budgets, and project coordination.

Additional Duties:

Your impact will extend beyond our campus as you coordinate research projects with external collaborators, both within and outside the US. This includes managing communication, deadlines, and workflow with external parties to ensure seamless collaboration.

Qualifications:

We’re looking for a candidate with a Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in psychology, organizational behavior, or a related field, and with a strong proficiency in quantitative skills and tools like STATA or R. Familiarity with experimental research and exceptional communication and writing skills are required.

Preferred Skills:

While not mandatory, prior research assistant experience, especially with designing and conducting field and laboratory experiments, is strongly preferred. We also encourage those with ability to perform statistical analyses on large databases to apply. If you’re comfortable using tools like Qualtrics and online recruitment platforms, that’s a plus too.
