DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Effectively and consistently handle a high-volume caseload;
Respond to requests for emergency legal assistance from eligible individuals or groups;
Gather information from applicants and clients, review documents, and identify and investigate factual allegations and defenses;
Perform legal research and analysis, summarizing and applying pertinent provisions of statutes, regulations, and case law;
Ensure correct and complete data entry into case management systems;

Develop, maintain, and facilitate specific training and materials relating to the work of the unit;
Assist in special projects or administrative tasks that maintain or enhance effective operation of CLS or the Housing Unit.

QUALIFICATIONS

Excellent communication and organization skills required. Must have experience working with low income or otherwise vulnerable populations. Housing and/or public benefits advocacy experience, bilingual ability, and Microsoft Office proficiency strongly preferred.

Salary: $38,400 - $62,200
CLS covers 100% of employee health, dental, and vision premuims, as well as a portion of dependant premiums. Leave policies allow for work-life balance, with 12 paid holidays, generous paid health, annual, and personal leave, paid bereavement leave, and parental leave.

Greater Boston Legal Services (GBLS) seeks an attorney with up to 10 years of experience preferred for a community lawyering and transactional law position in the Housing Unit. The attorney will be part of a team working with tenant leadership groups, community-based organizations, public housing authorities, city agencies, private developers, and others on major initiatives to preserve the affordability and habitability of thousands of deeply affordable units at risk of permanent loss and to create additional affordable housing. The attorney will have the opportunity to learn and work on all aspects of mixed-finance, mixed-income redevelopment process, including permitting, financing, and other key public approval processes, and to ensure that existing protections and rights of low-income tenants and applicants continue and are reflected in key contracts. The work currently prioritizes redevelopment of deteriorated public housing into mixed-finance, mixed-income housing over the next decade in Boston and gateway cities.  

Qualifications: Admission to or comity with the Massachusetts Bar is required. Prior housing law experience is preferred. Experience working with community organizers and organized client groups is preferred. Attorneys with lived experience of displacement or housing instability are encouraged to apply. This position is for an attorney with up to 10 years’ experience. Fluency in one or more of the languages in addition to English spoken by GBLS clients, such as Spanish or Haitian Creole, among others, is helpful. Staff Attorney Eviction Defense Program/Right to Counsel

Join the Spokane County Bar Volunteer Lawyers Program, SCBVLP, in leading the new pre Right-to-Counsel Program in Washington State. You will be working in a small, but mighty civil legal aid nonprofit. The SCBVLP is a nonprofit, civil legal aid organization that works to provide civil legal resources for low-income community members in Spokane and surrounding counties. The Pre Right-to-Counsel program works to provide attorney representation for low-income residents who are facing eviction primarily in Spokane County and a small percentage from the five surrounding counties. Legal assistance is provided through counsel and advice, negotiated settlements, and streamlined referrals to other social service providers related to housing. If the client/tenant does go to court, the client will be assigned to a Right to Counsel attorney either in-house or through another legal aid organization.

Job Overview

Attorney will work with and represent the tenant/ client. Attorney will act as an advocate first & foremost to ensure tenants’ rights are preserved, eviction related law are followed, and when possible, halt the eviction. The program is supported by the WA Office of Civil Legal Aid who offers additional training and on-going support to ensure success.

Compensation
DOE, benefits included generous education/training / licensing stipend. Membership to the SCBA will be provided a benefit. Attorney will represent the SCBVLP to outside stakeholders as warranted. As a 501 c 3 entity, there may be federal opportunities for student loan forgiveness.

Thurston County Volunteer Legal Services (TCVLS) is a 501 (c) 3 organization that provides legal assistance to low-income individuals and families for a variety of civil legal proceedings. tenant associations and assist in the daily operation of Bread for the City’s CLP practice and the

The Housing team has worked on groundbreaking litigation and policy advocacy including helping to pass strong tenant protections and protections for mobile homeowners in San Jose, defending San Jose's inclusionary zoning ordinance and Mountain View's rent control ordinances, saving the last mobile home park in Palo Alto, and settling a class action disability lawsuit on behalf of Section 8 tenants.

Eviction Defense Attorney

MPD is Oregon's largest trial level public defense service provider, with three offices in the Portland metro area. Community Law (CL) is MPD's civil division.


We seek a Housing Attorney to join CL and maintain an active caseload of clients facing eviction (pre-court-filing as well as in court). The attorney will become well versed in local housing laws, manage their caseload and clients, and collaborate with colleagues. 


Benefits: CL staff belong to the staff union. This position pays $64K - $95K per year, dependent on experience and bilingual ability. Senior Supervising Attorney, Economic Justice

Creatively working alongside, and under the leadership of, directly impacted community members, the Economic Justice Project (EJP) Practice Group provides legal advocacy, support, and education to dismantle exploitative systems that deprive people of wealth on account of their race and economic status and to support equitable systems of self-determination and economic reinvestment, particularly in historically marginalized Black and Brown communities.

EJP currently works to: (1) ensure equitable, inclusive, and non-discriminatory access to government programs to alleviate poverty by litigating systemic cases to protect and reform public benefit programs; (2) litigate cases to advance the human right to housing by challenging systemic policies that disadvantage Black and Brown people and result in the loss of land and generational wealth; and (3) end wealth-based discrimination in the justice system by challenging punitive policies that have the impact of criminalizing poverty (e.g., fees/fines, money bail, driver’s license suspensions, debtors prisons, and the criminalization of homelessness).

Under the supervision of the Deputy Legal Director, the Senior Supervising Attorney helps lead and direct the Southern Poverty Law Center’s economic justice work throughout the Deep South. This person is responsible for working collaboratively with the Deputy Legal Director, legal leadership and EJP staff to develop EJP’s vision and strategy to achieve systemic reform throughout the states in which we work. They will supervise and mentor a dedicated team of staff and senior staff attorneys and other legal professionals.
