LSU Health Shreveport The Financial Aid Counselor-SOM works under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Student Financial Aid and serves as a student financial aid advisor for current an... d prospective medical students at LSU Health Sciences Center Shreveport. The Financial Aid Counselor-SOM will advise prospective and enrolled students in all matters pertaining to federal, state, and institutional student financial aid programs. Extensive and comprehensive training in regulations pertaining to Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accreditation standards; Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) resources; and federal, state, and institutional student aid programs is required and must continue throughout the Financial Aid Counselor’s employment at LSU Health Shreveport. Duties include scheduling one-on-one debt management counseling activities, facilitating loan repayment sessions, identifying loan repayment options, conducting exit loan counseling sessions, evaluating need analysis, performing income verifications, packaging awards, processing, and certifying student financial aid by use of automated processes and computer systems for medical students. Prior experience working on a college/university campus or with students will assist the Financial Aid Counselor to perform these duties successfully.
