Do you have the data science expertise to help deliver the Sustainable Development Goals, through a diverse range of projects and mentoring globally?

We are recruiting a Data Scientist for the Data Science Hub of the ONS Data Science Campus, co-located with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Offices (FCDO) operations near Glasgow. The data scientist role is an opportunity for a talented individual to deliver insight about international development from data; applying skills in coding, mathematics, and statistics, to help the world’s poorest people escape poverty through diverse interventions targeted by robust evidence.

Our team helps FCDO, and our international partners in Official Development Assistance (ODA) governments and international organisations, to make the most of new data and techniques, by coaching their staff to build reproducible data science capacity, while simultaneously prototyping innovative new applications to be open sourced for the whole SDG community.

Your work will support the creation of innovative, robust, and reproducible data products and tools, prototyped against FCDO’s operations, and then scaled and opened up to the whole aid sector. As well as building tools, you will also play a mentoring and coaching role to analysts who want to move into data science, from both FCDO and its international partners like Non-Governmental Organisations and governments in developing and middle-income countries. While mentoring you will play a key role in shaping the mentee organisation's ambitions through linking them to expertise.
