About us: The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and young adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, and community green spaces across the country.
Program Description: You will be part of a five-person ecological restoration crew. Work includes Invasive species removal, prescribed burning, including firebreak construction, fuels reduction, burn operations, and monitoring as well as habitat restoration. You and your crew will be involved with removing invasive exotic species using herbicides and chainsaws, planting longleaf pine and other species, marking timber for harvests, growing and out planting thousands of pollinator plants, maintaining a canoe trail/campground, and assisting in sensitive and endangered species surveys and recovery. You will receive your basic Wildland Firefighter Type 2 Wildland Firefighter Type 2/(Red Card) training as well as S212 (Wildland Fire Chainsaws) and ATV safety course. These positions are a great way to add a lot of skills to your resume if you are considering a position in wildlife, forestry or similar fields. This crew typically burns over 10,000 acres/year in 30 or more burn operations.

The SCA’s commitment to guiding new and increasingly diverse generations towards conservation and climate leadership has never been more important or relevant to the communities in which we serve. To help advance this work, SCA seeks a dynamic and passionate Urban Green Director.
The SCA provides an array of urban programming across the country. The Urban Green Director will have three primary responsibilities: 1) Manage SCA’s urban and community forestry program and the cooperative agreement with the U.S. Forest Service, 2) Supervise and support SCA’s City Directors, and 3) collaborate internally and externally to help lead SCA’s Urban Green program. This position is part of SCA’s Program Leadership Team and regularly collaborates with the National Program Manager - Community,
The Urban Green Director will report directly to the SCA’s Senior VP of Program. Starting date is flexible, with potential to begin as early as June 2024 and as late as August 2024. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Applications received by June 9, 2024, will be ensured full consideration. This position is funded through SCA's award through the US Forest Service and is funded through 12/31/2028. While SCA plans to identify additional funding to support this position continuing past 2028, it is not guaranteed.

Position Summary The Student Conservation Association (SCA) provides an array of internship and corps programming across the country. The Program Manager (PM) – SCA New England position is responsible for ensuring the safe, complete, and quality execution of SCA’s New England program portfolio in accordance with the uniform practices and procedures established by the Senior Vice President of Program, AmeriCorps Director, and National Program Manager – State-Funded AmeriCorps. SCA members in this program will serve across New England to address critical conservation needs that benefit the lands and people of the region.
The PM is responsible for delivering an exceptional experience for participants through direct support of local SCA program staff. The PM works cross-departmentally to develop a seamless experience from selection of candidates to completion of the program in which they are participating. The PM collaborates with the Training, Education, and Evaluation teams to assure that all materials developed for the member experience support the mission and goals of SCA and our partnering organizations. The PM also works closely with the SCA Risk & Safety Team to be sure New England Programming is aligned with SCA’s Program Standards. They are responsible for AmeriCorps compliant program implementation which requires being knowledgeable in AmeriCorps protocols and grant provisions. The Program Manager - Philadelphi... a is responsible for the safe, complete and accurate execution of SCA’s various programs across the Philadelphia metro area in accordance with the uniform practices and procedures established by the National Manager, Community Programs and the organization at large. Program work will be focused in the Philadelphia metro area and Reading, PA. This person helps ensure the Philadelphia area Program Staff as well as crew leaders and members are equipped for the program delivery work scheduled, comply with curriculum/funder mandates, safety controls, logistical service/program delivery needs, and mandatory internal record-keeping and administrative requirements. This position reports to the National Program Manager - Community. This is a full-time, salaried position with a salary range of $56 -65K annually.
Roles and Responsibilities
External Engagement: Represent the Philadelphia Community Programs on calls / at SCA and other events and build relationships with community organizations and land partners on a local level. Support the SCA’s Philanthropy and Partnership teams to secure existing and new funds for local programming and assist with grant proposals and management as needed. Work with partner organizations in the Philadelphia metro region and Reading, PA to develop projects, monitor program outcomes, and ensure wraparound services when applicable.
Engage the community and local alumni in collaboration with SCA’s Advancement/Events team and SCA’s Alumni Director.

Build and leverage relationships with decision makers
Identify and cultivate relationships with decision makers at the legislature, state agencies, the governor’s administration, and others. Act as a key consultant to the political team in making high-level political decisions including endorsements, candidate contributions, etc. Play a key role in coordinated electoral work to help elect pro-conservation candidates.
