The Columbia Department of Psychiatry is seeking a psychiatrist, psychiatric nurse practitioner, social worker, or psychologist to serve as the Clinical Director of the Gender Identity Program in the Faculty Practice Organization at CUIMC. The Columbia Gender Identity Program is comprised of a diverse and multidisciplinary team of experts devoted to serving the needs of transgender, non-binary, and gender nonconforming children, adolescents, adults, and family members.

This is a full-time position in an outpatient setting which will include clinical, as well as administrative and leadership responsibilities. Candidates should have demonstrated interest and expertise in working with sexual and gender minorities, including children, adolescents, and families. The Clinical Director will collaborate with the Program Director of the Gender Identity Program and responsibilities will include involvement in program development as well as program clinical operations. The Columbia Gender Identity Program works closely with the Program for the Study of LGBT Health, allowing for several opportunities for scholarship and research collaboration. Join us at McMaster Childrens Hospital Gender Diversity program! We are looking for a Nurse Practitioner to join our growing multi-disciplinary team. We are currently growing our existing team of Adolescent Medicine physicians, pediatric Endocrinologists, social workers and speech language pathologist in Hamilton, Ontario.

Nurse Practitioner (RN-EC) uses clinical expertise and in-depth knowledge of children, adolescents and families, with a focus on gender affirming care processes and issues, to plan patient care and evaluate clinical practice across the continuum of care for children and adolescents and their families. This role will provide advanced practice nursing care for children and adolescents including a majority of those identifying as trans, gender non-binary or gender expansive.

The NP will collaborate with the physician team in the medical management of patients within the Adolescent Medicine Program. Included in those responsibilities will be the assessment and monitoring of interventions, including pharmacologic therapy. The NP will also participate as a community liaison and patient advocate. Proven effective collaboration and communication skill with health care teams is essential. The NP will bring evidence-based practice in the field of adolescent health (including gender affirming care) and will incorporate research and evidence into nursing and inter-professional practice and policy. The NP will work collaboratively with the team to develop and implement a plan of intervention, which addresses physical and mental health and wellness. The NP will liaise with the patient’s referring physician and with other treatment programs to ensure that the patient receives appropriate medical care.

The Advanced Practice Nurse’s focus will be to provide supervision to a team of health educators as well as direct client care in basic gynecology and trans health services to clients. These services include sexual and reproductive health care, gender affirming hormone therapy, and alternative insemination all in collaboration with Counseling and Integrative Health Services. Practitioners will work with a team of health educators and volunteer physicians to provide care that is peer based, trauma informed, and utilizes harm reduction.

Staff will receive in depth training in gender affirming hormone therapy using an informed consent approach as well as trauma informed gynecology services through a reproductive justice lens. Services will be delivered in a way that allows for longer client visits, client participation, and education and preventative care for the clients. We are seeking a highly-motivated Postdoctoral Fellow with strong leadership ability and expertise in labour and/or transgender studies. The successful applicant will work full-time under the supervision of Dr. Aaron Devor, Chair in Transgender Studies and Professor of Sociology; and Dr. Annalee Lepp, Dean of Humanities and Associate Professor of Gender Studies, for a one-year term with the possibility of extension to a second year. Applicants must have completed a PhD prior to commencing the appointment, preferably awarded in the four years immediately prior to the start of the first year of this post-doctoral fellowship. THE PROJECT:

Learn the nature and the extent of Trans+ (gender-diverse) people in situations of precarious labour in Canada. Develop and test a pilot project with a community partner.

The position will provide opportunities to collaborate and work with both activist and academic collaborators. The PDF will be responsible for investigating the experiences and circumstances of Trans+ people who have worked under precarious labour conditions, and for co-conceiving, co-designing, co-implementing, and co-evaluating a pilot project with a community partner to address current situations of Trans+ people in precarious labour in Canada.
